The essay contest invited Archdiocese of Louisville high school students to celebrate Catholic schools and the ways in which they inspire students to learn, serve, lead, and succeed.
Archbishop Kurtz and CEF Senior Director, Julie Baum presented Maggie with a $1,000.00 award at the annual Catholic Schools Week Mass. Maggie’s essay titled, “We Are More Than” demonstrates her great appreciation for Catholic education and the endless opportunities it affords students. Archbishop Kurtz shared with Maggie his favorite part of her essay, and Ms. Baum noted that her ‘strong Catholic faith’ was evident throughout.
Maggie’s essay will be published in The Record, but her final paragraph summarizes beautifully its’ message: “Students like me who are lucky enough to attend a Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Louisville are called by God to achieve beyond what can be taught in four years’ worth of religious instruction. Acting in accordance with the mission of Jesus Christ, students learn, live, serve and succeed by belonging to a community of believers with a shared mission to be “more than.”
Maggie is also a National Merit Commended Student.
