Sacred Heart School for the Arts Enrolling For Fall Classes

After 50 years of service, Sacred Heart School for the Arts continues to provide after-school community arts opportunities in Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts. Open to all students ages three and up, young artists can be introduced to a new art form or experienced artists can perfect their discipline. All students, regardless of their level of expertise, are provided with the opportunity to showcase their God-given talents through performances, recitals and exhibits.

SHSA’s highly professional, credentialed music faculty offers a variety of private music lessons, group classes and ensemble opportunities for all ages. Individual private lessons are offered in banjo, clarinet, dulcimer, ukulele, woodwinds, guitar, harp, music composition, organ, traditional piano, traditional violin and viola for ages 3 to adult and voice training for ages 12 to adult.

The SHSA department is committed to working with our community to ensure that programming is accessible and inclusive for dancers of all abilities and needs. Classes aim to improve body awareness and self-image while developing motor, listening, sequencing, and communication skills. Ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, Bollywood, Caribbean and modern dance class options are available for all ages. Creative Movement allows preschoolers to explore movement to music, great for self-expression and for development of motor skills and balance.

SHSA offers a variety of visual arts opportunities for students in preschool, elementary and middle school. Classes cover art forms such as ceramics, painting, drawing, collage, paper-mache and more. Students will draw inspiration from the masters while familiarizing themselves with art history and stylistic approaches along the way.

This fall, the drama department offers Fairy and Folk Tale Theatre (ages 4-6), Beginning Drama (grades 1-2), Intermediate Drama (grades 3-5) and Youth Drama (grades 6-8). Classes are designed to teach basic concepts of acting and theatre through age-appropriate exercises and theatre games, developing the three tools of the actor: voice, body and imagination. Drama students are introduced to the process of acting, the role of the actor, and the discipline of theatre through rehearsal and performance. SHSA will also offer a musical theatre dance class
focusing on the technique and lingo expected and used in dance auditions and performances.

Private coaching is available through SHSA and involves intensive, individualized instruction in dance, drama, music or visual art, tailored for students who are preparing for auditions, portfolio reviews, pageants and other special events.
