President, Sacred Heart Schools Announces Decision to Retire

For the last 16 years, Dr. Crabtree has embraced the legacy of the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville and put the success of the school community’s young people first, helping to make the Sacred Heart Schools campus the place where students grow from learners to world-ready leaders.

“Our community is one filled with amazing young people preparing themselves for the future, tremendous parents working to make sure their children succeed and astonishing alumni who are impacting the world in breathtaking ways every day. I’m so proud to have been a part of Sacred Heart Schools.” – Dr. Cynthia R. Crabtree

Dr. Crabtree’s many contributions include merging five individual schools into one unified district, construction of numerous innovative buildings including the new Sacred Heart Model School Gym, the Ursuline Arts Center, and most recently, partnering with the Ursuline Sisters on the transfer of all Ursuline campus property from the Sisters to Sacred Heart Schools.

Dr. Crabtree has been the leading force behind moving Sacred Heart Schools’ campus endowment from $2 million to $15 million, ensuring an Ursuline education is a reality for generations of future students and the legacy of the Ursuline Sisters continues.

Dr. Crabtree was integral in moving Sacred Heart Schools to an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School district. What began with Sacred Heart Academy’s IB World School status in 1997 has blossomed into a campus-wide educational approach to teaching and learning that is internationally recognized and benefits all students.

Dr. Crabtree’s leadership over the last 16 years and her unwavering commitment to Catholic identity and the Ursuline Core Values has put Sacred Heart Schools in a position of strength. As she begins her final year at the helm, Sacred Heart Schools looks to a prosperous future with the highest-ever enrollment.

Sacred Heart Schools will now begin a comprehensive search for the next president and will be announcing search committee members and the selection of a search firm to help in identifying the most capable candidates. As this search commences and throughout the next year, Sacred Heart Schools will celebrate Dr. Crabtree’s legacy. “Cindy has touched the lives of thousands of young people for over a decade. Our community is so much stronger for her leading us, and we will be forever grateful for her service,” states Timothy G. Rutledge, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Sacred Heart Schools.
