Welcome to Sacred Heart Preschool! Supported by the best practices in preschool education, SHP offers a holistic foundation for lifelong learning. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) Early Years school, our fundamental approach is focused on IB’s dynamic cycle of inquiry, action, and reflection. Our curriculum is student-centered and promotes each student’s social, emotional, academic, spiritual, and physical growth. Children are empowered to explore their curiosities with a strong emphasis on play, problem-solving, divergent thinking, cooperative group work, and social responsibility.

The principles of IB PYP are informed by best practices in education. Learning is child-directed and supports each student's growth at his or her own pace, while his or her own unique interests are highlighted. Student agency is honored, and children are provided with opportunities to experience freedom and overcome challenges.

We believe young children are capable, confident learners, whose natural curiosities should help shape their learning experiences. Children’s innate ability to learn through inquiry, ask questions, think critically, and develop problem-solving skills is what frames our pedagogical thinking. At SHP, we believe teachers are co-discoverers and guides who explore and experience learning alongside their students. Children who spend time in free play and in nature, and who have teachers who bring the learning outside, are regularly exposed to “traditional” subjects such as science and math... all while their learning is happening organically through inquiry and direct experience. These experiences give children a chance to do what they excel in - learn through play!
